Today we had our workshop induction day with Clare. She introduced us to the clay workshop environment and new type of material as most of us have never worked with clay before. She also showed us how to throw bricks. Because the Ibstock clay has not arrived yet we had to use red Terra Cota clay which was much harder to throw and some pre-made moulds. It took a lot of time to shape it up into a brick shape so it would fit into the mould. When we threw the brick we used a rolling pin to make sure the clay spread evenly in the mould. The whole experience made us realise that there is a lot more into throwing bricks then we thought.
