Creative spaces are a necessity for the culture of a city. Co.LAB has completed designs for a number of spaces to support different communities in their work:

CENTRALA GALLERY

Organisation: Polish Expats Association
Location: Digbeth, Birmingham
Function: Cafe, bookshop, gallery, office space, meeting room, event room
Floor Area: 390m2

Brief: Converting a vacant industrial unit with new store frontage, new cafe space and furniture, gallery space and office environment for the association clad in shingles. Upper floor converted into multi-purpose event room. View the project here.

BIRMINGHAM OPEN MEDIA

Organisation: Birmingham Open Media
Location: Southside, Birmingham
Function: Gallery, co-working, event space, cafe
Floor Area: 468m2

Brief: Converting an empty  retail unit from a 1960s commercial space, revealing a hidden mezzanine cantilever and lightweight wall dividers. View the project detail here.

BIRMINGHAM OPEN MEDIA 2.0

Organisation: Birmingham Open Media
Location: Southside, Birmingham
Function: Gallery, co-working, event space, cafe
Floor Area: 510m2

Brief: Phase 2 of the original B.O.M. design, including an extended mezzanine for a new co-working space, extending the gallery space and converting the design to more autistic-friendly lighting and detailing, inserting new circulation for accessibility across all levels. Function: Production workshops, event space, co-working, offices, creative project space
Floor Area: 1650m2

Brief: Developing an innovation and production space for artists, designers, SME’s. Converting a former car showroom into production facilities for wood, metal, print, digital and supporting co-working/event spaces. Working with delivery architects, Associated Architects.
