Football Futures supports local communities, providing activities for young children to occupy them, keep them fit and active, and encourage them to make friends and be part of a team, boosting their confidence and pride in their abilities, hopefully leading to a successful future.

The aim of the project was to provide a changing room facility with multipurpose social/ recreational space for the Burford Road playing field in the Kingstanding area of Birmingham. Part of the project design was to encourage an opportunity for community involvement and a sense of ownership, and for local young people and youth offenders to assist in the construction of the project to gain NVQ qualifications in construction.

A team of Postgraduate students from Birmingham School of Architecture developed proposals for the project up to RIBA stage C. The final proposals are for a distinctive and robust single storey structure that will provide a sustainable building to meet the client’s needs. The process included consultations and presentations to the team from Building Futures and input from specialist consultants. The client intends to build the project as soon as suitable funding is secured.
