Revive is a site that aims to provide an urban community with the chance and resources to work away from home, without having to enter the chaotic and at times, stressful city. Instead, Revive plans on offering a relaxing space that enables all visitors to achieve their best quality work. Taking nature, the surrounding environment and recycling into consideration, Revive has accepted the task of finding ways to be ethical yet practical, all whilst providing its demographic with ample room for a (co) working space.

After having evaluated nature and the natural forms that it has to offer, conceptual drawings and sketches began to take place. A mixture of curved lines, sharp angles and rounded edges were all found centred around a central hub. So it was only correct to try and incorporate a central hub into the Revive space.

Green Spaces is more than just a coworking space: it’s a sustainable community providing individuals with opportunities to grow and launch their own business’. Located in the heart of Denver’s RiNo Arts District, the environmentally conscious space aimed at specifically at bettering the economy and encourages members to connect with others of a-like minds from a multitude of backgrounds.
GREEN INITIATIVES
Green Spaces strives to welcome businesses that take notice of the environmental and social impacts on the planet to gain more exposure in the rapidly grown, socially-conscious marketplace. They are committed to becoming the ‘leading green clubhouse’ to increase emerging social enterprises and create a green space to connect and work in. In terms of materials Green Spaces considers all forms of environmentally friends resources:
- Reclaimed materials throughout including custom designed reclaimed wood.
- Recycled and non-toxic products used for cleaning and paper supplies

CASE STUDY: Herman Miller
I looked at Herman Miller as an example of modular furniture to help inspire our designs. we wanted to create flexible furniture that we could easily move around and adjust so that it was suitable for a particular task. after a talk with a Herman Miller representative, we were able to take information to help support us throughout this project.
In recent decades, productivity in the working area has become increasingly more reliant on people working together collaboratively in the workspace. for a successful workspace it is important as a company to allow your workers to have choice and variety when working, this gives them the flexibility to carry out tasks in a way they find more comfortable in hope to have the best outcome from them.
Allowing a variety of work areas that include a number of independent and collaborative workspaces allows them to choose and have a variety of places to work and interact together with one another and work alone.
Sam Hecht and Kim Colin of Industrial Facility created Locale for American design brand Herman Miller.
Locale helps organisations utilise and manage open offices plans by combining collaborative and independent working spaces in seated or standing postures to produce an efficient, flexible and collaborative work environment.

ERGONOMICS RESEARCH
Ergonomics is the study of the efficiency of people in their working environment. Ergonomics are very important because they help improve your overall health and prevent muscle disorders. ergonomics is the study of efficiency in the workplace, it indicated what needs to be done in order to help your workers stay healthy and perform better. Ergonomics do not only keep your employees safe is also helps the company in a number of ways. It helps reduce costs spent on compensation paid to workers due to MSD because companies can invest in ergonomic furniture that have beneficial factors that help reduce the risk of muscle disorders that occur due to poor posture. Office ergonomics help boost office productivity because the overall design prompts good posture.

Good office ergonomics leads to a high quality of work, poor office ergonomics leads to tired, uncomfortable, distracted workers that are unable to produce the best quality work. the best way to keep a good work quality is to invest in good quality work ergonomics that are flexible for the workers to enable them to have the best work environment possible. Investing in good ergonomics for your workers shows that your company is committed to the health and safety of your employees, the workers are the most valuable asset of a company therefore by keeping them healthy and safe not only is it good for your company it is also the right thing to do. Anthropometrics- the study of people and their relationships with the environment around them. anthropometric measurements are applied to a product to help with the ergonomics. for example, the measurements of a hand are used to help design the shape and size of a handle.

CASE STUDY: Menu Co-Working
Following on from the study of ergonomics and how people react to their surrounding environment. Research based on materiality and comfort was carried out. I began looking at the Copenhagen based company Norm Architects and how they recently worked with the brand Menu in order to provide their new working space with ample seating that can do both its job and provide comfort simultaneously.
Norm Architects wanted to create a piece of furniture that could be perfectly implemented inside Menu’s co-working space that features; an office, showroom, café, event space and co-working space. The firm always wanted it to fit perfectly into anyone’s own home too.
The seating features a mixture of enveloping polypropylene and a fibreglass shell seat. Which actually works in being able to bend subtly outwards and provide comfort and support for the user. The brand described the chair as “a perfect balance between geometry and organic shapes”. The seat was originally designed for Menu’s new creative co-working space in the Nordhavn (Northern Harbour) area of Copenhagen.

MATERIAL RESEARCH
Having looked at ethical materials and the properties that they can offer interiors, the following were researched into in order to find the best-suited resources that can act both structurally and environmentally friendly.
RECYCLED STEEL
It still has a large durability level and works well in environments that are prone to earthquakes. Another benefit of using recycled steel is that, when it comes to building a house, the approximate number of trees needed to create a wooden frame is roughly; 40-50 trees. Whereas using recycled steel, the required materials are approximately 6 scrapped cars. Using said material also helps in reducing the amount of steel and wasted materials that make it landfills.
POLISHED CONCRETE
With concrete having a high durability and a low environmental impact, having polished concrete in place would make for a great design finish as well as absorb any heat from direct sunlight and then release the heat as and when it is needed. Another hidden benefit of using concrete is that is an incredibly low maintenance level and would seldom need care. The material also works perfectly in areas that have traffic.
STRUCTURAL INSULATED PANELS
The panels are made from a layer of foam insulation that is also sandwiched between either plywood, strand board or cement panels. It reduces the energy costs of sites and can be used in many places of an interior/structure, for examples foundations, floors, basements and events load-bearing walls. The material can also be given finished looks to increase its aesthetic appeals.
RECYCLED WOOD/PLASTIC COMPOSITE LUMBER
Obviously made from a layer level of recycled materials, this material blend also aids in reducing levels of product waste that make it landfills whilst also looking after the Earth in the process. It is more resistant to mould and rot and is more rigid and stronger due to the wooden combination. The materials also have a higher tolerance to heat.

CORK
Cork is a unique material that is harvested mainly in Portugal for a number of reasons. By using cork in your building projects you will be sending a clear message to the harvesters that you would like sustainable resources to be used rather than ones that are hurting the environment.
TIMBER
Sustainable timber is produced differently from commercial oriented timber. The main aspect to sustainable timber is the harvesting and regeneration of the trees.
TEXTILES
The textile industry is one of the biggest polluters. Synthetic petroleum products are harming the environment because they are not natural and not produced with the sustainable movement in mind. Sustainable textiles consist of two different types of natural fibres: plant fibres and animal fibres. Cotton is not necessarily sustainable as it is one of the most used materials in the clothing industry. Animal products are more sustainable e.g. wool camel and llama produced from the hair of the animals.
