During this workshop we worked with fashion and textiles students to distort a garment by making cuts in them and inserting new pieces of fabric. We started with a shirt and inserted contrasting coloured fabric. The results were unpredictable; it created folding layers which pulled on the original shape of the garment. The students I worked with looked for a stiffer material in order to give the insertions some rigidity, making the outcomes a little more structured.
The final garment can be picked apart and used to form the basis for a new pattern.
