Designs 2 and 3

Our light studies show that designs 2 and 3 work most effectively as they reduce the amount of light reflecting from the facade; they reduce the amount of light entering through the windows and they don’t completely block the view of people inside the building.

The sketch above shows a section of design 2 on the facade. This design works well in that it doesn’t disturb the view of people inside the building, however, it doesn’t completely block the light which is reflected off the facade.

The sketch above shows a section of design 3 on the facade. By adding a row of solar shading in the center of the window we are able to block nearly all the light reflecting from the facade. Any light that reflects off the glass is blocked by the solar shading device below it.

By adding a row of solar shading devices in the center of each window, we will have to create additional support to hold up the devices.

We explored with diagonal and horizontal frames as shown above. We decided to go for a simple horizontal beam as this will have less impact on the facade.
