Bournville is mostly known for the cadbury factory and its housing-cottages.
In 1879, George and Richard Cadbury moved their factory from the middle of Birmingham to a place away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Reasons being they needed a site with room for further expansion and with a guaranteed supply of unpolluted fresh water, they also had to have a place with good communication with the outside world.
George Cadbury wanted to also provide a good and healthy living for the factory workers, he wanted the workers to have a comfortable environment to live and work, he wanted the Cadbury factory workers to not live a life of philantropy like the workers of other industries… Hence the building of cottages in Bournville.
