We came up with the idea of creating a circular platform in the centre of the room that visitors could walk around. This would also slightly elevate the animals to bring them closer to the viewers eye level in an attempt to bring out the character of the animals.
To add more depth to the animals stories we wanted to relate the exhibition to the city of Birmingham, and how the animals came to be there. To do this we added a silhouette of the Birmingham skyline around the base of the platform. This could also add further talking points, relating to the relationships between urban and the natural environments in which the animals came from.

We designed the platform in a circular shape to try to encourage viewers of the gallery to move around the platform and explore the room, giving multiple viewing angles of the animals.
