We are pleased to announce our newest commission. We have been approached by the Friends of Eastside Community Park to work on a project to design a commemorative structure, marking the historic Italian Quarter that used to be located in and around Curzon Street and Bartholomew Row.
The project was initiated by Dorothy Bradbury, a decendant of the Farina family who lived in the area. She has been campaigning passionately for a memorial to remember the community with particular reference to those who died tragically on the Andorra Starr boat, when German U-boats sank the ship as it transported interned Italian and German men from Britain.
Our work will look into this historic period of the city, which has to be said, remains unknown in the told story of the city. However, we have already learnt some impressive information on their contribution to the city. Co.LAB will then coordinate a series of focus groups and consultation sessions with the community before establishing a final design proposal that we hope to begin fundraising for alongside the project partners.
