John Maxted // Paradise Circus Initial Response

Following the group walk around the initial response to the site was quite mixed. Responses varied from the brutal nature of the finished concrete to items concerning failing spaces.

A reoccurring theme that came up was the juxtaposition between the internal space called Paradise Forum with its late 1980s intervention within the structure and the original proposed use of the space. This was highlighted in the use of the commercial spaces within Paradise Forum as opposed to the initial civic square that would have been generated. A member of the group drew attention to the glazed roof which highlights the changing use of what was once an open element within Paradise Circus.
