As a group we have decided to take forward the design below and experiment with it. The design consists of simple folded triangular shapes which extend from the facade, blocking the sun’s rays from entering the building and more importantly, the amount of light reflected from the buildings concave facade is reduced.
The model below shows an alternative design we created. We varied the size of the shading device, making it condense where more sunlight was hitting the facade, and less condense where fewer sunlight was hitting the facade. This design works effectively in that it reduces the amount of sunlight reflecting off the facade, however, it blocks the view of people inside the building.
We further experimented with our idea and produced the alternative designs shown below.
By modelling part of the facade and using an artificial light source, we were able to test our designs to see which ones worked best.
