Every year, the Birmingham School of Architecture coordinates an Events period in May to get students in a wide range of activities beyond their regular assignments. This will be the first time the events are under the Co.lab initiative.
And so to keep in with the collaborative theme, we are working with the RIBA West Midlands Branch and BAA to combine the events with their designculture:Birmingham ideas competition. Students will join invited practices to work on a number of projects briefs set out by various cultural organisations in the city.
From their press release:
The BAA in conjunction with RIBA WM and BSoA are launching an ideas competition in the lead-up to Love Architecture Festival. This competition aims to tie in with the overall campaign approach for 2013 under the umbrella ‘Design Culture’ and bring together architectural practices, students and arts organisations across the region to collaborate.
Through this we intend to connect architecture to the public sphere, increase our public reach, position ourselves in terms of policy, and tie in with a focus on Culture & Development as favoured by Birmingham City Council through their recent restructure.
Details of the each of the projects will be revealed on the 9th May at the School of Architecture
