Had a very interesting tutorial with the 1st Year students today, they were to create a 1:20 model of a structure of a building and at the end we placed loads(bricks and wooded panels) on them to see how stable they are and if the students understood the structural elements of tension and compression to create a structure that resists all loads. It was interesting to see that 2-3 of them resisted all the loads! Whatever we placed on them they just didn’t crumble. It was very good to see the students working together to make this model and since many resisted most loads it is very pleasing that they understood the physics of structural loads.
